Tanoh Dawn celebrates nature’s power for renewal and the sacred harvest of patchouli in its original Gayo homeland. Cedarwoods, frankincense and Darkoa support the deep, woodsy, spicy center of Gayo Patchouli while cardamom helps elevate its bright eucalyptus-like facet, making it both grounding and invigorating.

The Hero: Gayo Patchouli
Our Gayo Patchouli is fresher and less earthy than conventional varietals. It combines a cleaner camphoraceous top note reminiscent of eucalyptus and a warm and cozy cocoa-like note.

Cedarwood Essential Oil (Virginia)
This classic essential oil comes from the steam distillation of the wood chips and sawdust from Juniperus Virginiana, also known as Eastern Red Cedar, which is endemic to large parts of North America (our oil in fact is sourced from a sustainable producer in Texas). Considered by many perfumers the most beautiful of the cedarwood oils, it helps bring out the woodiness of the patchouli and contributes a balsam-outdoorsy feeling.
Cardamom Pure Extract
Cardamom opens the fragrance in a cold, spicy way, pairing well with the aromatic aspect of our Patchouli Gayo. The oil is obtained from the whole pods of green cardamom (Elettaria Cardamomum) via an eco-friendly, supercritical fluid extraction process. Provenance may vary: Guatemala, Honduras, India.
Frankincense Essential Oil
This iconic oil evokes ancient cities and spirituality. In Tanoh Dawn, it reinforces scent throw and helps the fragrance take off. The oil is produced from the steam distillation of gum from Boswellia Carteri (aka the frankincense tree) in Somalia.
Cedarwood Essential Oil (China)
Despite its similar name, this essential oil comes from the steam distillation of wood chips and sawdust from Cupressus Funebris, also known as the Chinese Weeping Cypress. We’ve used this ingredient in the past as it provides a strong backbone and verticality to woody compositions. When used smartly, its smokiness can be a real asset.
“Darkoa”
The secret superpower ingredient that ties this fragrance together. “Darkoa” is a distinctive proprietary
ingredient of our fragrance house resulting from the co-extraction of cocoa powder and the same sustainable
Patchouli Gayo Essential Oil centering Tanoh Dawn.
It beautifully juxtaposes a note of bitter (but smooth) chocolate with earthy, arboraceous facets. The
subtle chocolate-leather nuance adds depth, culminating in a creamy, woody harmony. The provenance of the
cocoa powder used in the co-extraction varies: Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria and Côte D’Ivoire.
Triethyl Citrate (Solvent)
The primary purpose of using a solvent in candle fragrance is to make the fragrance blend more easily with
the wax and ensure that it is evenly distributed throughout the candle, contributing to a good burn and good
scent performance.
Despite its hard-to-pronounce name, Triethyl Citrate (“Tri” for short) is produced simply by combining
sugarcane alcohol with citric acid obtained from plant starch or citrus fruits.
Candle Burning Tips
Following your first burn, each time you use your candle, trim the wick to 3⁄8” (about the width of your pinky finger) before you light it. This helps ensure a smaller, safer flame and less soot.
Each time you burn your candle, burn it for 2-3 hours. This will not only maximize the fragrance throw, but also help avoid "tunneling," where the candle burns down the middle, leaving wax around the edges.
For safety reasons:
▶ Don’t burn your candle when less than a 1/2” of wax remains.
▶ Never leave a burning candle unattended!

What's a gift-boxed candle?

A gift-boxed Keap candle comes with a beautiful black gift-box, and inside you'll find a candle (phew!), a
coaster/dust cover, matchbox*, and an informational insert.
*Please note that matchboxes can only be included in Ground shipments. If you choose an expedited shipping
option at checkout (Air or Priority), the matches will be excluded from your order.
Can I include a gift note?

Absolutely. In the cart there is a field to enter a personal gift note. We hand-write every gift note on a card and include it alongside your gift.
Can a gift receipt be included instead of the price?

We only include details about how to contact us, alongside any gift message you provide so no pricing information will be visible.

Expedited shipping options are available at checkout, and orders with upgraded shipping will be prioritized in
our shipping queue. Because expedited shipments (Priority or Air) are transported by air, we will omit matches
from any orders with expedited shipping to comply with regulations.

We do our best to get you the best shipping rates possible. The cost depends on your location, the size of the
order, and the shipping option you choose at checkout.
We offer free shipping on subscription orders and on one-off orders of 8 candles or more.

Yes! Subscribers get 10% off all orders when using the email associated with your subscription at checkout. If you experience any issues with the discount not being applied, reach out to us and we'll be happy to lend a hand!
I'm a subscriber. Do I get free shipping on this order?

For one-off orders, we do not offer free shipping.
However, subscribers do receive free shipping on all subscription orders (i.e. orders placed through the
subscriber portal), so you can order our Signature Scents through the portal year-round, and you can order this
month's Seasonal Scent through the portal anytime before the change of the month.
