Founder Fridays: The Grand Idea of "Wholeness"

Each month the owners of Keap reflect on the theme of our Ignite Story, and consider what the topics mean for us as individuals, and as business owners.

This month we’ve been meditating on the grand idea of “wholeness” — what does it mean to see the whole in our lives and our work?

It led me to think about how business has tended to treat the planet and its natural resources (including humans) as separate entities — exhaust one area, and simply move onto the next. This narrow approach is akin to a virus killing the very host that feeds it because it doesn’t conceive how the bigger system operates.

Today it feels as though the idea of wholeness, or interconnectedness, is being thrust upon us whether we like it or not. It’s impossible to ignore that the planet is a single organism struggling to cope with the demands being placed on it.

Yet I firmly believe that humans possess the potential to create any outcomes they care deeply about — this much has been shown throughout history.

So wholeness also led me to think about the set of holistic outcomes we can create as business leaders as we dive into this new decade. For a start I would suggest we make it our duty to regenerate nature, build healthy communities, and create spiritual fulfilment.

I find it so refreshing and helpful to think holistically, that we’ll be exploring more grand ideas and thoughts on our instagram in the year ahead. These will be linked to our work and stories, and designed to help us continue to ask intriguing, soul-opening questions of ourselves.

As we end January I encourage you to take a moment and think about what “seeing the whole” means to you. Let me know if it leads to any interesting ideas!

Cheers,

Stephen from Keap

We left social media in 2021 because we found its current mechanics didn’t align with our purpose to facilitate connection to the natural world, our loved ones, and our own spirits. Since then, our newsletter has become a vibrant place for healthy conversation around topics ranging from alternative business ownership models to happy hour cocktail recipes.
