Eucalyptus Pure Extract
Light in the Leaves features two distinct eucalyptus (Eucalyptus Globulus) ingredients. The first is an eco-friendly, supercritical fluid extraction that protects the leaves’ and twigs’ full aromatic profile—by applying high pressure but very little heat. It is followed by an ethanol extraction (absolute) to retain a deeper, darker, and more complex eucalyptus oil.
Good eucalyptus oils feature a distinctive strong and pleasant scent, often described as clean, fresh and invigorating. This extract, sourced entirely from Spain, preserves the plant’s full aromatic profile, resulting in a truer eucalyptus scent. It is fruitier, less minty, with a balsamic cistus note, blackcurrant accents and a warm resinous woody facet.
Hinoki Leaf Essential Oil
Chamaecyparis obtusa, or hinoki, is a species of cypress native to Japan. Our oils come mostly from the Chūgoku region, the westernmost region of Honshū, the largest island of Japan. The leaves undergo a steam distillation to produce the essential oil, which carries a distinctive camphoraceous, fresh pine aroma noted for its clarity and intensity, helping link the woody and aromatic parts of the fragrance.
Artemisia Essential Oil
White wormwood, or Artemisia herba-alba, is a perennial shrub that grows commonly in regions surrounding the Mediterranean—in the case of our essential oil, it’s grown and steam distilled in Morocco specifically.
Artemisia herba-alba has a long history of indigenous medicinal use in its territory. Olfactively, this oil is a remarkably unique blend of tree sap, fir, cistus, pineapple, as well as aromatic and woody facets. It plays a vital role in this fragrance, contributing some welcome darkness and bitterness to balance out some of eucalyptus’ brightness.
Geranium Bourbon Essential Oil
This is a highly prized geranium oil from a direct-sourced project in Madagascar, using organic and regenerative agriculture practices without pesticides, minimizing water usage, and practicing crop rotation. Eucalyptus Essential Oil
The second eucalyptus (Eucalptus Globulus) in the formula is a more conventional essential oil, sourced predominantly from China. Fresh, camphoraceous, and vibrant, eucalyptus has long been reputed for its use for easier breathing, relaxation, focus, and other benefits.
Cabreuva Essential Oil
Our Cabreuva essential oil is obtained by the steam distillation of wood harvested from Myrocarpus frondosus trees, that grow throughout northern Paraguay. Cabreuva has a sophisticated woody character and a touch of sweetness with distinctive floral facets, reminiscent of lily-of-the-valley. It provides a sense of transparency and greenness to this fornula, creating the shadows of the canopy.
Linalool
Linalool is the main olfactive compound contained in Bergamot. For many, it is reminiscent of earl grey. Here it gives light and breath to the composition, as well as boosts diffusion of the scent.
Linalool is a natural isolate that can be obtained from a variety of plant materials. This one comes from a series of distillations and syntheses. It starts with Crude Sulfate Turpentine (CST), a by-product of the kraft paper-making process from cooking softwood trees like pine. CST consists mainly of terpenes such as alpha-pinene and beta-pinene. It is distilled to isolate alpha pinene and then, through a four-step synthesis, becomes linalool.
