DARKOA ๐ŸŒŒ (and what makes candles so special?)

All about Darkoa, the secret, proprietary ingredient in our new Tanoh Dawn candle

I mentioned in a previous letter how Darkoa was the finishing touch that held our new scent, Tanoh Dawn, together.

What is Darkoa, you ask?

Darkoa is a co-extraction, which is similar to traditional steam distillations used to make essential oils.

However, instead of using water to extract the aromatic volatile molecules from the raw material we are distilling, we use something else. In this particular case, our Gayo Patchouli essential oil is used to extract the aromatic volatile molecules of cocoa powder.

The result combines aspects of both cocoa powder and Gayo Patchouli. Our producer puts it elegantly:

"Its gourmand chypre character beautifully juxtaposes a note of chocolate with earthy, arboraceous facets. The subtle chocolate-leather nuance adds depth, culminating in a creamy, woody harmony."

Tanoh Dawn is available this month for Keap subscribers (make sure you are opted in to the Seasonal Scent option).

In other news, how are Keapers experiencing tariffs?

We analyzed the three-hundred-something responses in our recent Keaper survey. With how fast the news cycle moves, we wanted to share this review first. It was a little too long to fit in the newsletter so we made it into a blog post, replete with bar charts and quotes. Hopefully it is somewhat cathartic to read through. Let me know your reactions!

Last but not least: a tote giveaway

I have been asked โ€œWhy candles?โ€ many times recently.
ย
Iโ€™m working on a piece on the topic, and Iโ€™d love to incorporate your thoughts: What do you think makes candles special? Why do you find them so wonderful?
ย
Send me your quick thoughts before Monday 10/27 midnight EST, and Iโ€™ll pick one respondent to receive something special:

Last month, we made 30 tote bags with the help of our local friend and screenprinter at The Department of Things. Each bag was screen-printed by hand in Kingston with eco-friendly water-based inks on premium quality, heavyweight recycled cotton totes. They are built to last!

Weโ€™ll be offering these soon on the website. For now, the only way to get one is to send me your deepest thoughts on candles. :)

Have a great weekend!

What our readers say about it

โ€œItโ€™s very thoughtful and not sales-y like all other marketing newsletters.โ€

โ€œI like reading how a business is trying to be as progressive as possible in a capitalist system.โ€

โ€œI normally delete emails from businesses but with the Keap newsletter I was actually interested in reading through! Made me feel that you guys really care about us and the work you do."
