Appreciation begets appreciation

This post was originally shared in our email newsletter on November 8, 2023.

In case you missed it, we are sending a complimentary Scent-to-Home set to someone towards whom you choose to dedicate an appreciative haiku.

As long as it follows the rules of the game (in particular, make sure your submission follows the 5-7-5 syllable structure!), nominees of all valid entries will receive a Scent-to-Home from you, on us.

🖊️🤗 Submit an appreciation here 🤗🖊️ [deadline November 12]

If you’re feeling a little fatigued, you might be seeing this and thinking: “Oh here we go again, another money-hungry company pretending to care about nice thoughts when all they want is just to make money, grumble grumble.” Wait, actually, that sounds kind of like me when I’m tired. 😂

In any case, I would forgive you for thinking that. And I will add that in fact we do have several motives for doing this.

In our Keaper survey earlier this year, we covered how our biggest blind spot was around getting the word out. So many of you said things along the lines of—to paraphrase: “I want to get the word out for you. Help me help you!”

As you probably know, we have been completely off social media since January 2021. That in turn has forced us to get more creative in finding ways to reach new potential customers that also serve our purpose (to facilitate connection).

Separately we had two other objectives that were in need of a plan: the first was our annual “Giving Thanks” initiative, where we seek to share appreciation with our community. The second was to start giving more airtime to some nonprofit partners we’ve been passionate about for a long time.

Could we design something that encouraged people to take time to share appreciation, kindled their creative spirit, promoted our nonprofit partners and helped our community spread the word about Keap?

That is what this experiment is all about. Ultimately it’s about spending our money on gifts for under-appreciated folks in our wider community and on great nonprofits who share our mission—instead of spending it on social media ads.

If you haven’t already, I hope you take us up on this offer, and in the process experience a moment of mutual affection with your nominee. And if you have been looking for ways to share Keap with friends, you could forward this newsletter and encourage them to submit their own appreciation.

Keep in mind also that a few nominees will be selected to receive larger gifts, with the largest being a 12-candle gift subscription.

Once again, November 12 is the last day for submitting appreciations, which you can do here.

Have a wonderful day!

— Harry from Keap, Steward-Owner

More on this topic

If you enjoyed this article, you might enjoy our not-quite-weekly free newsletter where we share our lessons on our journey toward our regenerative vision, product launches, and behind-the-scenes happenings.

We left social media in 2021 because we found its current mechanics didn’t align with our purpose to facilitate connection to the natural world, our loved ones, and our own spirits. Since then, our newsletter has become a vibrant place for healthy conversation around topics ranging from alternative business ownership models to happy hour cocktail recipes.
