We’re continuing to receive fascinating feedback, both by email and at the Field + Supply market last weekend, about our new scent, Light in the Leaves.
Cold Impressions
The gist of these comments is that the cold throw of the candle presents as sharply eucalyptus—camphoraceous, bright, refreshing, potentially even medicinal. (This isn’t all that surprising: When we smell candles “cold” the lighter top note molecules typically travel up more enthusiastically.)
Depending on how much the commenter likes eucalyptus, their enjoyment varies.
But of course, if you’ve followed us for a long time, you know that in our scent design we prioritize hot throw.
And this is where the comments converge in their appreciation.
Hot Impressions
Once the candle is burning, the accompanying ingredients step up and take over. Eucalyptus is still present and part of the picture, but hinoki and cabreuva transition that aromatic mintiness toward something deeper and subtler.
The geranium Bourbon essential oil connects back to our hero ingredient with its minty facet, but its dark rose and lychee-like aspects impart something unexpected. Meanwhile artemisia is the true unsung hero. Its dark woodsiness and bitterness help to balance out the exuberant brightness of eucalyptus.
Together these ingredients work to create a harmonious scent with twinkling, atmospheric, and meditative qualities.

Subscribers signed up for the Seasonal Scent option are receiving it through the end of October. If you aren't a subscriber, you can try it in this month's Scent-to-Home set: The mini tealights make great travel candles and the set comes with a $19 credit toward a new subscription.
One last thing: We’re planning for December a refresh of our Keaper-sourced gift shop guide, and we’d love to get more of your recommendations. Share them here.
It’s a great opportunity to show support and send business to the local indie businesses you love.
Have a great week!
