Timur Moonâthe first scent in our all-natural Full Circle Collectionâhas been growing in popularity over the past year, but in my opinion it remains underrated.
The free text responses in our recent Keaper Survey gave us a valuable hint to why our little fledgling has yet to fully soar. A number of respondents perceived the scent to be subtler and less persistent than our other scents, even as itâconfusinglyâdiffuses a farther distance.
âSome of the newer ones need some tweaking for their hot throw. The scents, as always, are exquisite.â
âI love that you're moving towards 100% natural scents. I do find them to be more subtle than the other candles but I can understand that's because they're all natural, and that's a good thing.â
Comments from survey, referring particularly to Timur Moon and Terraces.
We were aware that Timur Moon and Terraces threw scent differently (farther diffusion, less local intensity) but the survey showed we had under-estimated how noticeable the gap is. Timur Moon got high marks for the fragrance itself, so might we able to give it more intensity and turn it into a super winner?
Bad news first: Timur Moon is already maxed out on how much fragrance we can put in the candle. That means the only possible solution is a change in composition.
By embracing a 100% plant-based and 100% biodegradable constraint, we are restricting ourselves from using high-intensity aroma chemicals that are commonly used in luxury fragrances to boost throw. The more intense, heavy (in molecular weight) naturals tend to burn poorly and have to be used sparingly. Achieving a locally intense hot throw within our all-natural requirements requires us to walk a very narrow path.
The good news is that with each new Full Circle launch we are getting better and better at it.
And weâre excited for the challenge of developing a stronger, reworked Timur Moon formulaâapplying the lessons weâve learned since its original launch.
This monthâs Seasonal Scent, Tanoh Dawn, is our third and most recent Full Circle Collection fragrance, where we already applied some of those lessons. Let me know what you think of it!
And number four is just around the corner, with Light in the Leaves coming in October.

The survey also highlighted a rough batch of Waves this summer. About 7% noted they didnât like how Waves burned, a sharp jump from the under-1% we see elsewhere. We traced the issue to the tricky interplay between this year's fragrance batch and our summer wax.
Initial reports from Keapers led us to tweak our summer wax blend ratios, and add a new testing protocol to catch this kind of issue earlier.
